Getting a same-day crown from Patrick Stuckey, DDS rather than waiting up to 2-3 weeks to have one designed by a third-party lab has a number of benefits aside from the obvious advantage of saving time. Same-day crowns do not require messy dental impressions, which many patients find to be an uncomfortable process. Instead, we use a digital scanner to capture 3D images of your teeth. Same-day crowns also eliminate the need to wear a temporary crown for 2-3 weeks while you wait for a permanent crown to be created.
What to Expect
The Same-Day Crown Process
Dr. Stuckey will begin the process by cleaning and numbing your mouth. Then he will remove any damaged enamel and create a stable platform to which he can attach your crown. Next, he will use a 3D CEREC scanner to collect images of your teeth and create a model of your crown.
Once this process is complete, he will handpick a block of porcelain that matches the color of your teeth, and the CEREC machine will automatically sculpt the porcelain block to craft your crown in just a few minutes. Once the crown is complete, Dr. Stuckey will check it to make sure it fits properly, then bond it into place permanently. Finally, your crown will be buffed and polished to complete the procedure, which usually takes between 1-2 hours.

One of the best things about CEREC same-day crowns in Ruston from the office of Dr. Patrick Stuckey is that they don’t require any special care at all. Unlike traditional crowns, which require you to wear a temporary crown for a few weeks, you’ll get your permanent crown right away.
This crown will be tightly bonded to your tooth, and will cover it all the way to the gum line. To care for your new crown, you can treat it just like a natural tooth. All you have to do is brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes using proper brushing technique, and floss once per day to keep your gums healthy.
You should also quit smoking, eat a tooth-healthy diet, and avoid sugary and alcoholic beverages to keep your teeth healthy. This will help prevent decay from forming under your crown, which could cause it to fail prematurely.

Traditional crowns
Compared to traditional lab-made crowns, same-day crowns have a lot of great benefits. First and foremost, this type of restorative treatment is much faster. Your same-day crown can be built and placed in just a few minutes, while lab-made crowns take up to 2-3 weeks to be built.
You also don’t have to wear a temporary crown with CEREC crowns at our office. These plastic crowns can be bulky and uncomfortable, and may pop off if you’re not careful while brushing and flossing around them, which is inconvenient.
Both types of dental crown usually have a similar cost, though one or the other may be a bit more expensive depending on the specifics of your procedure. Overall, though, the costs are very comparable.
Traditional crowns do have some advantages compared to same-day crowns, though. They may be needed if a tooth is cracked below the gum line, since CEREC scanners can’t get a good impression of deeply-cracked teeth. And though both CEREC and lab-made crowns look great, lab-made crowns can also often be built with a higher level of fine detail.
How long do

Same-day crowns usually last between 10-15 years, and can easily last a lot longer than this if you take good care of your teeth and your crowns.
